AI Driven Columns

AI-Driven Custom Columns use the power for Gen-AI and LLMs to generate values based on the source column.

AI-Driven calculations are slightly different to the other types. It allows the user to generate a new column of values that pivot off the source column. However, it is immediately presented as a metric, rather than a classic attribute.

Warning: This functionality operates off LLMs. LLMs can act in unpredictable ways and may generate no values, strange results and even erroneous results. Use them with caution.

Adding AI-Driven Functions

This functionality is not available, unless an LLM provider has been added to the system first.

Right clicking on an element in the hierarchies panel will show a context menu. Select "AI Driven Value" from the menu.

You will be presented with a small dialog to enter your question. Assume it will be auto-merged with the values of the source column. So here, "I want population figures" will get merged with each country's name in the source column.

The more specific your question, the less likely the results are nonsense. Also, keep in mind that most LLM data is stale. Do not expect it to give real time results.

Once completed, the engine will create the metric (shown below) and auto add it to the visual query. It is a good idea to have your source column already in the query for this purpose BEFORE you trigger the exercise.

Editing the Formula

The generate formula can be edited in Formulate like any other, where you can tweak the question and act accordingly.
